The player is given access to the world map, although there is only one location to travel to. Haji gives the player a tutorial on Front/Back Row and Partner Skills.
The party makes way for Dalia, a nearby village to ask for information.
In Dalia, the party splits up, each character going on a separate and small path.
Lad will explore the village and stumble upon a field of sunflowers. He takes one and a villager mistakes him for the “Sunflower Knight”.
Pino can choose to help a couple and initiate the “Runaway Lovers” sidequest, an important sidequest where you help a pair of runaway lovers elope and make their way to Tipperacti. The eventual reward is a Partner Skill.
Nyota is struck with hunger and you can optionally make her steal food from the village, maybe a pie in an open window? Tom & Jerry style.
Haji learns about The Snail’s Foot, a large tavern and inn riding atop a giant snail familiar.
The Snail’s Foot is owned by a mage named Captain Gato Janewa and she has a giant snail familiar named Herge.
On The Snail's Foot, Lad is mistakened for the Sunflower Knight.
A famous hero. A person who wears armor resembling Lad. Pino and Haji uses this to their advantage and convinces the people of the tavern to give the party free room and board.
Captain Janewa knows that Lad is not really the hero but reluctantly decides to let the party stay because Herge convinces her and he is amused by them/thinks they will entertain the guests/senses that they are a good group.
The party plans on riding The Snail's Foot all the way to Tipperacti, the capital.
During their stay, Lad is asked to tell a story about one of his adventures. Pino acts as the main narrator though with Lad acting very confused but excited.
The player is given a choice on what to say in the story. Such as what monster they had slain and what treasure they found. The audience will be captivated by exaggerated and spectacular choices and underwhelmed by boring choices. (A chupacabra versus a bunny rabbit?) If you entertain the audience, Captain will later give you a great reward. If you don’t entertain them, Captain will give you a huge bill that you can optionally pay.
Your storytelling also affects a “Sunflower Knight” sidequest. Whatever you say happens in your story is what happens in the sidequest. You will have to fight the monster you said you did and you will receive the treasure you described. The more spectacular your story was, the more difficult this sidequest.
During the night, a cloaked girl comes to Lad thinking he is the Sunflower Knight. She wants to hire him to be a bodyguard because she is supposedly on the run from criminals. It is obvious she has heinous intentions though. Her real name is Ghezabel but she disguises herself as Ghuadalupe. “My name is Ghez-...I mean, Ghuadalupe.”
Lad, being the good natured and helpful robot that he is, agrees and leaves the tavern in the middle of the night.
In the morning, the party notices Lad is gone and asks around The Snail’s Foot about his whereabouts.
The party finds out after asking around. Nyota and Pino argue because Nyota doesn't want to leave the easy ride of The Snail's Foot but ultimately the group decide to go save Lad.
Lad and Ghuadalupe travel through a mountain passage. Ghuadalupe has a mysterious item (stone?) that grants them the ability to cast a healing spell. It is very obvious that Ghuadalupe is lying and has bad intentions.
While travelling as Lad, you can “unlock” areas for Nyota to later go through. Pushing a stone out of your way may let Nyota grab a hidden item when she comes through.
Lad and Ghadalupe are captured by the band of criminals. Ghadalupe is revealed to actually be Ghezabel Ghrima, one of the members/leaders of the Ghrima Gang, and was planning all along to capture Lad and sell him as a bounty to other criminals. All of their lackeys could be called “Ghrunts”?
Nyota and co. find them. They free a small weasel familiar named Jinpa who says the Ghrima gang stole a precious item of his (the healing stone) and that he knows where Lad is being kept.
Nyota thinks Jinpa is very cute and Pino becomes jealous. Jinpa has a sharp tongue and wit and easily argues better than Pino.
The party rescue Lad and defeat the Ghrima Gang. There is a sidequest later that focuses on the Ghrima Gang.
Jinpa reveals that his mage is a potion maker and he travelled far to obtain the healing stone that the Ghrima Gang stole. Jinpa needs the rare stone for his mage to make a special potion. Jinpa also reveals that his mage is working for Tipperacti and she can help them get an audience there. The party agrees to escort Jinpa back to his mage.
Jinpa joins the party (although he is not a playable character).
